2 weeks down 16 more to go

I've made it through the first 2 weeks of school. I started out taking forest management, Geography/geo-technology, Humanities, and Statistics. I dropped humanities. I'm down to 12 credits. I simply didn't want to work that hard at school this term. I'm in love with statistics, FM is interesting, and Geo is left to be seen. Geo is a lot of map (you know geography) we are going to use GPS units yay. I will take a moment and let you all know that I am completely and totally directionally challanged. If you give me a compass and a map I will wander in circles and not understand why the compass doesn't work. I once got lost in a casino for 45 minutes. I have a GPS unit in my car, I put in directions. I still get lost. How does one get lost while using a gps unit you ask? I don't know.

Yesterday was our very first appt post diagnosis. A1c was 8.1, which is fine. I don't know what she is "supposed" to be, but the endo said that 8.1 is good. Her A1c at diagnosis was 11.5. We are doing fine, Vivian is doing fine. The goal right now is to get her BGL between 100-200 and stay there. That is harder than it sounds. Her body is still doing what it's supposed to do, just not well. She gets a little low and her liver shoots out some glucose. She gets a little high her pancreas shoots out a little insulin. This is called the honeymoon phase it can end at any time and it can continue indefinitely.

Life is. I don't know what yet, but it is.

Need to know what an A1c is? It's the average of her blood glucose level over a period of 3 months. Hemoglobin A1c.

Did I mention she has Celiac disease? She does. This was diagnosed about a week after the diabetes. It was the celiac that had us at the ER the day she was diagnosed with Diabetes. Celiac is a gluten intolerance. Gluten is in everything. It is everywhere. Barley malt, oat flour, oatmeal, rye, wheat, it's in soy sauce, and cereals. I don't want you to think I'm a celiacist, some of my best friends are glutens-pasta, bread, you know all the best things in life. Diabetes I can handle, but I'm not rich enough to eat gluten free.
